Bathroom Accessibility

At Next Day Access, we understand that safe and reliable bathroom access is essential. Due to the very high number of slippery surfaces that have little to hold or to grab to break a fall, bathrooms in the home are very hazardous. More than one in three seniors—over one-third of the total—fall each year. The National Institute on Aging (NIA) tells us that 80 percent of falls in the over 65 age group are in the bathroom (NewsUSA). It isn’t only older loved ones who are at risk. The most hazardous activities for all ages are bathing, showering and getting out of the bathtub or shower. (Only 2.2 percent of injuries occur while getting into the tub or shower, but 9.8 percent occur while getting out.) Injuries in or near the bathtub or shower account for more than two-thirds of emergency room visits. Injuries getting on and off the toilet are also quite high in people 65 and older.

According to research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1.6 million older adults seek emergency care each year for fall-related injuries, fractures or head trauma. In addition to potentially losing their independence, seniors 65 years old and older have a 25 percent chance of dying within six months to a year if they fall and break a hip.

As a result, Next Day Access is very concerned about the safety of your home, especially in the bathroom. We hear it every day. It is likely you have heard it about it from a friend or relative–or you have experienced a fall yourself.

The safety solution?  Increasing the ease and safety of access to the bathroom area. We offer grab bars and portable showers for the bathroom to increase safety and mobility in your home.

Portable Showers

People with disabilities sometimes find that traditional shower or bathtub facilities are difficult or impossible to access. In addition, remodeling a bathroom for full accessibility may not be possible, so a portable shower is a great option. For both these situations, Next Day Access offers a convenient fold-away portable shower. Our portable showers are complete shower facilities, allowing full wheelchair accessibility. They do not need any tools or modifications to a site.
